Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

"Permission"- Reaction

I'm actually quite confused about this story. I had a little trouble following along with the events that took place as I felt they were a bit random. From what I do understand, it seems that the story is about a boy describing his experience in some type of school with a dreadful headmistress. He speaks about his future and what it can be like. He talks about his son, daughter, and wife, but then speaks about his headmistress and how she makes him get into his pants and ties his shoes, which tells me the main character isn't an adult yet, but speaks as if he is in the future. That is the feeling I get and I may be completely wrong. Another idea I have about it is that the main character could very well be a grown man and talks about his family in the present time, but then discusses these memories as a child when describing the events with his headmistress. Overall, I felt that it was a bit confusing, but I do like the fact that it keeps the reader thinking. With that being said, I would have liked if the author had been a bit clearer.
