I felt that the conclusion to Sh'khol was pretty odd but at the same time I understand why the author ended the story that way. It was hopeful to see that Tomas was back, alive and well. The conclusion shows that he is growing into a teenager, although he has fetal alcohol syndrome and is deaf he is still a teenage boy and will act as such. As a mother you have to let your children grow and perhaps the author wanted to show that rite of passage for Tomas as hopeful that he is growing up.
As far as the ending for Jack, July... it makes me wonder what will happen next. It seems like Jack is going to end up staying around Jamie and using him for the drugs and food even though Jamie is gay and is attracted to Jack. Jack seems heterosexual but that might change because of his drug addiction and lack of other people in his life. He has no one else but Jamie to turn to.
