Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

"Jack, July" Ending Response

The ending of Jack, July was pretty conclusive, in that it summed up what Jack is going to be doing again now, even despite everything that has happened with his sister Lisa and his life. Never able to escape this entire vicious cycle it seemed, no matter what comes to try and derail it. Now Jack, forever hopeful of getting something to cleanse his soberness and forget his problems gave his hope and heart to a man that would keep him, maybe, happy but it could only be temporary in the long run.

It did leave me wondering as well in the end because it did end quite abruptly. Now that Jack seem to have once again found a sanctuary for his habit once more, what will it lead to now and will Jack ever learn his lesson? Judging on how fast he reverted back onto his old habit, and finding refuge from someone else, that time could be a far one down the road for Jack. It leaves you wondering if he will ever managed to break the habit once and for all and maybe someday go completely sober.

Lastly and the most ironic thing about the whole thing is that part when he was waiting for death and got up once he heard the lights, stating to himself he was no idiot despite everything that has been going on and funnily enough, he will be calling himself an idiot again and again for the next few times over in the future if anything does happen again once more.
