Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Motherlode

As a reader of the "Motherlode" the author really help set the tone of the beginning of the story. As a writer and a reader, I think that the introduction should captivate the readers attention, and for myself while reading Motherlode, the author really captivated my attention with the opening of the story. However, not only did it captivate your attention within the first couple of sentences, I think that it really just made you want to know more. It kept the reader wanting to know more. When David was getting kidnapped by ray, I couldn't stop reading. The author made me want to find out what ray does when he does kidnap david, or what he wants. Also, why out of so many people ray choose david?
