Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Motherlode
This is an awesome story, the best of the anthology, I think. The opening does all the things I want an effective opening to do. It creates a conflict (stickup), it's got great authentic dialogue, it's funny, and it even suggests a dark conclusion w/ the dead deer in the back of the truck w/ the flag hanging off its hoof.
