Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Madame Lazarus
Being a dog owner I was really feeling the pain right along with the author of this story. He starts of not wanting the dog but after a short while he quickly is enchanted by the dog. The dog becomes his child and really helps with the absence of his husband. When Cordeila first enters his life she instantly connects with him because of her uppity attitude. This sets up the story for the life they will spend together. There is a pretty noticeable time jump from the point he gets the dog to point they are old together. He watches Cordeila age and it really depressing. It was really sad when she to put her down , it really was like killing a freind. I do feel like it happened way to fast, as if she was there one second and gone the next. The story made me pretty sad, but it I did understand the fact that see was in pain.
