Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Response to Jack July

When I started to read the story I was easily a big fan of Jack's character. I'm not sure if it was due to his mental state of mind and something comforting about how he was considered to be different. I was always curious to how's ones personality is under the influence of meth. The story definitely was a bit humorous which was what kind of grabbed me. It was entertaining how all the characters interacted with each other and you're able to determine everyone's affect on each other.

The conclusion was interesting because it ended with no real change with the character Jack. He goes through a little self journey or awareness learning so much about himself and how he views others, along with how other people viewed him. In most cases of people with addiction, changes doesn't happen over night and the fact that the ended closed off with Jaime initiating another session to use meth to Jack made the whole situation so surreal.\

You can see the self conflict he has with himself when he recalls a saying his mother says "You don't life your life, make up another one" He's sad with how his life is but still cant find a way to change it? Least that would be my impression of the conclusion to this story.
