Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Mother lode

First off I really really like the ending of this story. David's introduction was well painted as normal guy, that mostly did normal guy things. In the end this really drove home the point that this string of unfortunate events can happen to just about anyone. I liked that the story had a sort of lesson it was teaching. When David first meets Ray he is robbing him for his car, at this point I'm really afraid for David. I expected the worst out of the situation after hearing how off the rocker Ray was acting through out the ride. When David finds out the gun is not real, the dialogue turns a little comedic between them. This I think is the real turning point of the story comes. David's escape from that point would have been really easy. He chooses not only not to leave but also get involved with the Ray in what ever the scheme was. I didn't really get what was the product was that they were moving was but I guess it didn't matter because it lead everyone to the same demise. In a lot ways David was reaching for the forbidden fruit and got caught and had to pay the ultimate price. Also if David stayed in his mundane life he probably would still be alive. Slow and steady always wins the race. I really liked the story.
