Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Reactions to Motherlode
This story was quite long and it had so much information that needed to be grasped. Not only did a lot come from the main character, David, but so did from his new companion, Ray. The title definitely had nothing to do with the whole story. Motherlode was basically a film that Ray was a part of in his past. I'm guessing Ray was an actor because he was in many other films according to him. I've noticed that acting for so many years has got him go act good in real life since I almost thought he was a criminal until he had to confess to David that he actually wasn't and told him about his actual life story. And I was happy for David that despite being a highschool dropout he was happy with his cow breeding job. But at the end when he left what he loved to work for Ray to earn extra money it just got him into huge consequences. I found the ending really scary. I thought what was David going to do now. The killer eventually got to him and the ending doesn't tell me enough. I wish there was more to the ending.

Jenni: This is a really good reading, but I wonder if you're correct that the title doesn't have anything to do w/ the story. Did you look up the term "mother lode," esp. as it relates to gold mining? Check it out and then think about how it might have something to do w/ the story.
