Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Motherlode - Beginning
The beginning of this story got interesting quite quickly. I like how the author introduced Ray as a stranger and gave us this feeling that Dave was being watched. It was a creepy feeling and then soon after he rushed to leave the diner the feeling was confirmed by Ray who pointed the gun at Dave's stomach. I enjoyed reading this story from beginning to end because of the way the author quickly develops the story after he gave a brief description of Dave's not so interesting life. The story ends just as quickly as it starts as far as the excitement in the story goes. Once the action was going on and the reader is all in, the characters are taken away.
