Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Reaction to Sh'khol
When I read the beginning of the story I thought there wouldn't be much to it. I especially didn't think there would be like drama or expense whatever you call it since the characters were only the mother and her son. But to my surprise the son disappeared and I thought she would be able to find him right away but everyone including the detectives and cops had to be involved. That was crazy. I'm questioning myself why all of a sudden the boy didn't want the mother to bath him all the way when it was only two days that past since she last saw him. How does puberty happen within days? Anyways I thought the ending was a happy one and I felt some kind of emotion when her exhusband called her his wife and he even managed to touch her hand and hug her while he had his new wife back home. It upsets me that they didn't end up together. I like how this author used multiple languages that I didn't understand and that each word from different languages made connections to something she was trying to connect to. And I really wonder what language the son was able to understand. There was a lot of descriptive word in here to but for some reason I was only able to picture her living room, the bathroom, her son's room and the beach hey lived next to. I pictured the ocean looking really dark and the sky always looking grey since that's how the author said it looked like.
