Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 221 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

"You'll Apologize If You Have To" by Ben Fowlkes

Wallace was interesting character, he's obviously a fighter and fighting in a mixed martial art environment. My understanding of the story he's trying to separate his personal life from his fighting
life. His personal life is very lively like spending three days in condo in the dark like a hermit or trying to drunk in several attempt , Not very fighter-like. Wallace's life is going out of control and very rapidly. Even in his life as a fighter is going well his fight with Thiago the Brazilian which ended in a knockout by a headkick. Next the fight with ex-soviet special forces figher Zinoviev which Wallace suffered a broken orbital, eye swelling and face swelling up like a balloon. But in the end managed to win the fight by choking out Zinoviev. Best to say this story reminds me of Rocky just as Rocky Balboa said to his adult son." Life's not about how hard of a hit you can give, it's about how many you can take and keep moving forward. I believe this short story emphasize this quote exactly.

  1. These two fights happen at different times though, correct? They're not both in the timeline of the present of the story.
