Wallace is so engulfed in his own self pity to see how hes affecting Molly's life. This scene emphasizes the fact that Molly has started not talking to her father. Wallace spends the majority of the time at Kim and Molly's house explain to Kim all the negative things that's happened in the last few days. Wallace gives a series of excuses. Meanwhile Kim is attempting to indirectly tell Wallace that none of that matters. Fighting equals life to Wallace. Kim tries to explain to him that Molly is the only thing that matter. Okay you lost a fight, why should your self pity keep you away from your child. Life goes on was the bottom line.
This scene Wallace attempts to come out of his self pity. Deciding to take responsibility for his actions and apologize to the man he tripped into the mud earlier. Instead when Wallace gets to the man's house he is greeted by the man's wife. In talking to the wife Wallace finds a comfort in being able to let go of his burdens. The burdens that have been weighing so heavy on him from his job to the incident with the man. The wife listened unlike everyone else he encountered that day and she related, offering him empathy. The wife not having much of a life herself had all the time in the world to offer Wallace a listening ear. In return Wallace offered her companionship.
I ultimately believe that each conversation Wallace had throughout his day were necessary for him to get over his loss.
