Even though they aren't together anymore, the mother of Wallace's daughter knows him well enough to see the reasons that he does things. For example, in their conversation the ex wife did not talk to him any aggressive because she already expected that he wouldn't be there when she asked him to, for his daughter. And when he suddenly showed up the next day, she knew that wasn't normal of him. he wouldn't show up comfortably without him calling. She even knew that he was into trouble and was smoking drugs and that he got himself into trouble because that would be the only way that he would escape from the area he was in

     In this scene Wallace is talking about his life with someone he doesn't know. He feels comfortable talking to her. The lady and Wallace were also talking a little bit about the husband, which in my opinion was annoying because he came up to Wallace just to annoy and waste his time and then lies to him that he had children in order to stop Wallace from doing what he was doing. Wallace responded to the lady that he didn't like his job when in fact he did since it was the only thing he liked and was good at, but the effects of the job made everything else in real life stand out as boring, very simple and fake because it was probably something he found routinely and the fighting job that he has is challenging where he faces something new and unexpected every time.
